Options for a Gold Flower Girl Dress by Patricia Pirkis
When using the color gold for garments it might imply a brassy yellow, a paler and softer buttery gold color, or even something similar in hue to sand. When a bride wants to find a gold flower girl dress she may have to do a bit of searching because this is one color that appears only infrequently, and usually in only a limited number of styles.
For example, most gowns available in a golden color will be somewhat old-fashioned or classic in their design. There are also some extremely “simple” styles using a very basic bodice and skirt style that emphasizes the rich color and whatever fabrics are selected.
A good example of a gold flower girl dress would be one of the styles often described as “color block” which have a bodice in a pale cream or ivory color, and which have an extremely full skirt in a richer shade attached. There are many brides who prefer this elegant and simple styling. Such a gold flower girl dress might include a square neckline and an elegant gold silk sash or silk flower accents at the waist, and then a massive swath of gold silk skirting with layers of petticoats or crinoline beneath.
Another style that relies often on golden hues is the tea dress style. This type of gold flower girl dress would be likely to have a somewhat higher waistline with lots of rich fabrics such as damask, embroidered netting, and silk. This is the sort of dress that would be ideally suited for a bride hoping to match their flower girl’s gown to theirs where cut and style were concerned.
Of course, gold is also found in hues similar to those of flowers, and many brides allow their flower girls the opportunity of appearing like characters straight out of fairy tales. For instance, it is not unusual for the bolder golden hues of the sunflower to appear in children’s wedding garments. This might mean a sunflower yellow base over which sheer and pale layers of tulle are gathered to create a distinctive ballerina in the garden look.
One thing to consider about the use of gold for a flower girl’s dress is how it will work in the context of the wedding party. Will it match some feature of the bride’s clothes? Perhaps it is going to pair up nicely with other members of the bridal party? If a gown in a golden color doesn’t have a partnering hue somewhere else in the wedding ensemble it might clash or jar in photographs and this is something to consider before selecting such a color.
